1000 Orphans to Be Future Ministry Leaders of Myanmar

Piteulia Foo is one of the most passionate and ambitious leaders we’ve ever met.

As a bi-vocational pastor, leadership trainer and regional producer for The Global Leadership Summit in Asia, she has a growing desire to see church and organizational leaders come together, grow together and build upon a platform that can truly transform communities. Part of this dream includes serving more than 700 orphans in Myanmar, and raising them up to be young leaders she hopes will become ministers, start churches and transform their communities.

As a key part of the GLS, Piteulia is witnessing her dream come to life in two ways.

  1. The GLS is uniting and encouraging leaders to embrace their grander vision

“Churches of different denominations have a platform to come together, and that provides a powerful opportunity to network and work together,” says Piteulia.  “Pastors have come to realize the importance of leadership in the church. It’s not just that we have the ability to preach or teach, it’s gone beyond that. We need leadership in the church not only to lead the church, but to grow our organizations.

“We can start a movement! I see churches starting to do that as they come together. We are witnessing people beginning to understand and see God’s grander vision in their lives.”

The GLS is bringing a biblical perspective to leadership, one that is anchored on adding value to people, servanthood, empowering others to succeed and encouraging people not to quit.

“A pastor friend I have known for many years is a senior pastor of quite a large church in Singapore,” says Piteulia. “He falls into the 10% category of people who want to quit ministry. He told me the GLS changed his mind and brought him back. Today he is an influential leader in the church community. In fact, he has been bringing senior leaders and senior pastors to the GLS, and helping to grow some of the sites as well. That really touches my heart!”

  1. The GLS inspires Piteulia to raise up orphans to become the future ministers in Myanmar

When Piteulia and her husband, Patrick are not pastoring the church, or leading the GLS across Asia, they are serving orphans in Myanmar, adding value to people and empowering them to succeed. “We have been doing missions everywhere throughout Asia—China, Thailand and eventually we got to Myanmar,” says Piteulia. “We feel called.”

“We have been doing mission work in Myanmar since 2002, and have a vision to raise 1,000 orphans and inspire and train them to become 1,000 ministers. And perhaps if God is willing, they will plant 1,000 churches!

“We now have 17 orphanages and 715 orphans since year 2002. Since we started, some of them have already grown and started working in churches, businesses and in the communities. They are having an impact!”

Piteulia’s vision and passion are strengthened by the GLS. “I think one of the leadership principles that I learned through GLS is how to help other leaders succeed.” And she and her husband are doing just that. Please continue to pray and support leaders like Piteulia whose grander vision transforms communities.
